Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy has been a musical curator for nearly her entire life whether on the radio, at her Classic Album Sundays events or as a musical host or DJ at parties and clubs.
She is a protégé of David Mancuso who mentored her for nearly 25 years and is a musical host at his Loft parties in New York City and the London Loft Party they started 14 years ago. Together David and Colleen produced The Loft compilation series for Nuphonic and she was also part of David’s record label The Loft Audiophile Library of Music. Along with David she is a founding member of the Lucky Cloud Loft parties in London. He once told Time Out, “She is very devoted and very pure about the music. She’s one of the only people I would trust both with the music, the equipment, and the dancefloor to fill in for me.”
She has also guested at some of the world’s best parties including Body & Soul, Francois K’s Deep Space, The Fillmore North / Precious Hall in Sapporo, The Gallery in Tokyo and The Last Note in Rome amongst countless others.
Inspired by her mentorship in sound with David and her expansive knowledge of music, Colleen created the world’s most popular album listening experience, Classic Album Sundays, which now has satellites in almost 20 cities throughout the world and is an online classic album destination.
She has also run her own label Bitches Brew for which she has written and produced as Wild Rumpus with Captain Beefheart’s Gary Lucas and she has also remixed for artists and labels such as Candi Staton, The Rapture, Horace Andy, Chaka Khan, Desmond Dekker, Beardyman, !K7 and DFA to name a few.
She has been on the radio since the age of 14, hosts her regular Cosmodelica shows on Gilles Peterson’s radio platform Worldwide FM and also writes and hosts a series called ‘Sounds of a City’ for BBC6Music. She has also produced and hosted radio shows for BBCRadio4, XFM, Absolute Radio and RBMA amongst many other platforms.
