Invisible City has its roots in Canadian soil, but the DJ and production duo of Brandon Hocura and Gary Abugan has scoured North America and the Caribbean to revive towers of classic disco and vinyl rarities. They cut a reputation for their creative DJ sets, selling out shows at Tokyo clubs, Montreal Loft Parties, Melbourne’s Music Festival and Womadelaide with ecstatic dancers. It earned them respect from global dance scene giants Moodymann, Theo Parrish, DJ Harvey, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Gilles Peterson, Caribou and Four Tet. As a valuable addition to their DJ sets, the duo’s creation of their Invisible City Editions label features impeccable releases from forgotten and obscure heroes of the golden disco period – Trinidadian soul pioneer Michael Boothman, Zambia’s mythical band Witch, as well as Stephen Encinas’ seminal Disco Illusion reissue. Hocura and Abugan have gone deeper than most traveling all over the world seeking deleted, rare and forgotten vinyl. As a result, their label has been praised for redefining how we interact with the past.
